Range Rover vs. Jeep

Range Rover vs. Jeep

So, you want to own one of the most capable adventure-ready SUVs that money can buy. For many drivers, comparing Range Rover vs. Jeep is the next logical step–and it should be! Both of these brands deliver unique all-terrain features that other brands can’t match, but only one will be just right for your Phoenix and Gilbert drives. Learn a little bit about each brand’s current lineup below, and then compare Range Rover vs. Jeep in the areas where it counts the most!

Jeep or Range Rover: Overview

Although there are four distinct Range Rover SUVs to choose from, you should know that the Land Rover brand produces seven different SUVs in total! We’ve covered the basics of each Range Rover and each of the three Land Rover SUVs below.

Range Rover and Land Rover SUVs

The Land Rover lineup starts with the Discovery Sport, priced at roughly $37,000. You’ll have a wide range of options to consider, building up to the high-end flagship Range Rover:

  • Range Rover Evoque — A capable but compact SUV with room for five.
  • Range Rover Velar — A stylish and sophisticated SUV with utterly unique design and room for five passengers.
  • Range Rover Sport — This luxurious SUV slots just beneath the flagship Range Rover, but it also offers seating for up to seven with an optional third row.
  • Range Rover — The one and only Range Rover offers stunning luxury without compromising on performance. It seats five, or four with 2nd-row captain’s chairs.
  • Land Rover Discovery — The potent Land Rover Discovery offers seating for five or seven. It’s a more spacious and luxurious alternative to the Discovery Sport.
  • Land Rover Discovery Sport — The Discovery Sport is the most affordable model in our lineup, and it also offers optional third-row seating.
  • Land Rover Defender — The Land Rover Defender is a rugged champion, built for taking you farther from the beaten path. If you’re comparing Range Rover vs. Jeep, the Defender is one of your strongest choices.

Each is comfortable off-road, but the more rough-and-ready Land Rover models will tend to appeal more to fans of classic SUV styling.

Jeep SUVs

Looking at the Jeep lineup, you’ll note that the Compass and the Renegade are the most accessible models, starting at just over $22,000.

  • Jeep Compass – The Compass is compact enough for city driving, and not particularly powerful, but you can still find a Trail Rated® version for off-road adventures.
  • Jeep Renegade — The Renegade is a bit tighter than the similarly-sized compass, but it’s just as competent on trails.
  • Jeep Cherokee — The versatile Cherokee is a good choice for the family who wants a little of everything. You’ll seat up to five in its (still technically compact) cabin.
  • Jeep Wrangler — The classic Wrangler is just as iconic as it is capable. You’ll seat up to five, but its wash-out interior makes it a good choice for the driver who doesn’t mind a little mud!
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee — The Grand Cherokee is the largest option in the Jeep lineup, but it still doesn’t offer seating for seven. Still, its powerful engine lineup will doubtlessly attract some drivers.

Although the Wrangler is unquestionably the most competent off-road model, you can hit the trail in many of their vehicles. For luxury, you’ll want to consider the Grand Cherokee–but not even the most luscious-appointed Jeep can compare to a fully-loaded (or even partially-loaded) Range Rover. Dual-screen touchscreen interfaces and Meridian™ audio are just a couple of the features that their rivals tend to lack, and many Land Rover SUVs come with premium leather interiors.

Jeep or Range Rover: 4-Wheel Drive Off-Road Prowess

Although pricing and passenger capacity are of primary importance, drivers who want to decide between a Range Rover or a Jeep will definitely need to take a look at each brand’s lineup of performance features:

  • Towing Capacity: The most you can tow with the Jeep lineup is 7,200 pounds. For that task, you’ll need to choose a Grand Cherokee. At the same time, both the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport offer 7,716-pound capacities, and a Discovery can tow 8,201 pounds.
  • Off-Road Driving Modes: With the Land Rover brand’s Terrain Response® 2 system, you’ll enjoy seven driving modes, including Dynamic, Eco, Comfort, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud and Ruts, Sand, and Rock Crawl. The Jeep brand’s Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System offers five modes.
  • Ground Clearance:Land Rover vehicles stand tall, and even taller when you take advantage of adjustable Electronic Air Suspension. Jeep offers a slightly less versatile Quadra-Lift® Air Suspension System to raise their vehicles a few inches.
  • Control in All Conditions: Quadra-Drive II can transfer up to 100% of traction to the rear wheels in Jeep vehicles. Land Rover SUVs often have Active Rear Locking Differentials to transfer power wherever it’s needed most, to the wheels with the most traction.

Land Rover models also offer All-Terrain Progress Control, a sort of low-speed cruise control that lets you focus on steering and braking as you move at an even pace. You’ll also enjoy ClearSight Ground View, a front-mounted camera that lets you see beneath the vehicle and comes in handy when you’re working a steep hill.
